Queens Public Records

Queens County is one the five boroughs of Manhattan. It was founded in 1683 and is one of the original New York counties. Queens County offers multiple types of records, some of which are restricted. Queens County public records that are restricted include birth, death, marriage and divorce records. Birth and death records may be requested from the New York State Department of Health or for birth records prior to 1910 and death records prior to 1949, from the Municipal Archives.

Queens County marriage records should be requested from the City Clerk, and while divorce records are accessed via the County Clerk. Statewide criminal records are available from the Unified Courts System. Queens County court records can be searched online through Unified Courts System as well. Historic Queens County cemetery records, vital records and court records can be viewed at the Municipal Archives.

  • Queens County birth records are restricted for 75 years to the person of record, family members or legal representatives. Birth records may be ordered in person, by mail or online through the New York State Department of Health.
  • Queens County death records, marriage and divorce records are restricted for 50 years. Death records may be requested from the New York State Department of Health, marriage records from the City Clerk, and divorce records from the County Clerk.
  • Queens County court records may be searched for free through the Unified Courts System website. Statewide criminal records may also be requested, but there is a fee.
  • The Municipal Archives holds Queens County cemetery records, court and vital records and is open to the public.
