In most of the United States, by law, cemeteries are required to keep records regarding burial or cremations of individuals. Cemetery records will usually contain the name of the deceased, the date of passing and location of burial within the cemetery itself.
Cemetery records are also required by the cemeteries themselves, as they need a means to make sure they are not using the same burial plots to bury multiple individuals.
